MSc Cyber Security

About this programme

The MSc in Cyber Security (Level 7) is a dissertation-based postgraduate programme intended for learners who have already completed the taught component of a Level 7 qualification or hold an equivalent postgraduate qualification. The programme focuses on developing advanced research, critical analysis, and problem-solving skills through an independent research project in a specialised area of cyber security. Students will identify a contemporary cyber security challenge, conduct an in-depth review of relevant literature, apply appropriate research methodologies, and produce a dissertation that demonstrates academic rigour and practical relevance. Throughout the programme, learners will strengthen their ability to evaluate emerging technologies, security risks, governance frameworks, and industry best practices while contributing original insights to the field. On successful completion, graduates will be awarded an MSc in Cyber Security, demonstrating the advanced knowledge, research capability, and professional competence required for leadership roles, consultancy, research, or further doctoral study.

What you will learn

1. Apply Ethical Hacking Methodologies

Demonstrate advanced knowledge of penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, offensive security techniques, and ethical hacking tools to identify and mitigate cybersecurity risks.

2. Manage Cyber Security Incidents

6. Conduct Professional Research

Apply appropriate research methodologies to investigate complex cybersecurity challenges, critically evaluate findings, and produce innovative, evidence-based solutions through independent research.

7. Evaluate Emerging Cyber Threats

Analyse evolving cyber threats, attack techniques, security technologies, and emerging trends to recommend effective security strategies for modern organisations.

8. Demonstrate Professional and Ethical Practice

Apply ethical principles, professional standards, legal responsibilities, and effective communication skills when managing cybersecurity projects and organisational security operations.

Entry requirements
